Hero Academy arrives on Android!

It may have been a long time coming but Robot Entertainment have today soft launched Hero Academy on Android devices! This is obviously fantastic news for those with Android devices who have eagerly been awaiting to play the game on the move with their mobile devices.

Monster Crew now live for Android! – Interview with Dave Pottinger

Looks like Christmas has come early from BonusXP who have today released the Android version of “Monster Crew”. There are many great games on iOS that never make it to Android, its great to see that BonusXP have taken the time to enable the millions of Android users to enjoy the spooky platforming game. Monster Crew is an “endless” platformer that sees you play the role as Frankie, a boy who had his precious card collection taken at a yard sale. Vijay Thakkar of NewToy discusses the benefits of quick and easy game patching

Vijay Thakkar an ex-ES programmer who had a short spell as programmer and then lead programmer at Robot Entertainment is now at NewToy as their technical director. Vijay recently took to the stage at the GDC Online to give his insights about the need to have the ability to quickly and effectively patch games post release. Vijay compares NewToy’s ability to quickly patch games in comparison to Nintendo’s “Metroid the other M” where a game breaking glitch meant gamers had to send their SD card or console away for repair. Bonfire Studios developing for mobile platforms – iPhone, iPad, Android?

A recent job listing on the Bonfire Studios website suggests that Bonfire may be pursuing game development opportunities with the mobile market including Apple’s iPhone / iPad and Google’s Android OS.

Bonfire Studios is seeking a talented programmer who loves programming games for mobile devices to join our team and share in the creation of our games and technology. The ideal candidate has industry experience in the mobile space including iPhone, iPad and Android, and has shipped mobile titles to his or her credit. This is a position that requires excellent time management skills and the ability to work in a self-directed manner.

Certainly seems like the studio has plans to develop some kind of mobile game. It is not known if mobile games are the core focus of the studio, it may well be the case that they are developing games for PC and / or consoles as well. The studio is also looking for network programmers for Xbox Live and PSN. More details about the new mobile job description appear below. Food for thought!

Required:

  • You have mobile game industry experience and we want to hear about it, including at least one shipped game on iPhone, iPad or Android platforms.
  • You are a great programmer with excellent debugging skills and good design sensibilities.
  • You love working with other people on a team and prize good communication.
  • Burning passion for gaming and game development.
  • Preferred:

  • You have multiple shipped mobile games to your credit.
  • You have experience working in Microsoft Silverlight.
  • You have a degree in Computer Science or similar discipline (Physics, Math, EE, etc.)
